Digital Art
Art is an ever changing concept that adapts to the time. With the new technology that is available today such as computers, a new genre or form of art has emerged - it is called digital art.
As the term implies, digital art is created with the aid of a computer. The art itself is stored in its digital format, a bunch of zeroes and ones called binary numbers, and can be made in many ways. There are a lot of ways to create digital art, and it is done using various computer software. Digital art can be purely made of computer generated images or animations and can also be derived from scanned pictures or images from digital cameras.
Some digital artists "paint" from scratch using computer software like Adobe Photoshop, and others create collages out of digital pictures, modifying or editing them as they please. As you can notice here, digital art is basically something done using computers or is somehow related to it.
Computer animation is also considered as digital art. Animators either draw using a mouse or graphics tablet a certain object, or scan it using 3D imaging devices, and apply effects to it in the computer.
Thegood thing about digital art is that almost anyone with a computer fast enough to run certain computer software can create this form of art. There is no need for expensive supplies like paint, canvasses, and brushes since these art-making tools have their counterpart in computer software. The task is a lot easier too. A digital artist has an array of art-making tools which can be easily modified to suit the need. For example in digital painting, an artist does not need to buy several paint brushes, filters, or even paint to make a painting that requires it. All that has to be done is modify the size of the "brush" in the software being used, or change the color of the "paint".
Digital art is not only limited to two-dimensional work. Thanks to powerful computers and 3D animation software, it is now possible to create three-dimensional art.
Though still not considered by many as a "serious" art unlike traditional ones, there is a lot of potential here. Since this form of art is stored in the digital format, it is not subject to wear due to environmental factors. The quality of the art is preserved indefinitely as long as the device where it is stored is kept safe from physical damage.
